YouTuber, fraud investigation start-up among those stepping up to fight scams
HRC was featured in this Straits Times article for our role in rescuing victims from the scamming compounds –also known as fraud factories– and advocating for international government action.
The extensive scale of these criminal scamming operations is detailed in this piece, both in terms of victims enslaved and financial losses incurred. The article particularly focuses on the story of Frank Kamugisha, a survivor who escaped these compounds with the help of governments and various organisations. Frank now works with HRC, aiding others in similar situations.
HRC’s founder and director Mina Chiang also emphasises the complexity of rescues and the necessity for concerted international efforts to dismantle these fraud factories. This includes freezing assets, imposing travel bans, and blocking trade activities of the criminal networks.
